Pharmacist Intern

About the role#

Trinity Health is seeking a Pharmacist Intern to provide technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. This position involves performing technical tasks under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, contributing to patient care through medication preparation, documentation, and clinical support.

What you'll do#

• Prepare patient drug orders and deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient care areas.
• Process medication drawers and fill unit-dose exchange envelopes.
• Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
• Perform patient counseling regarding medication use, including drug names, strengths, doses, and side effects.
• Maintain inventory by restocking automated medication dispensing machines and checking medication expiration dates.
• Compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products according to established procedures.
• Process outpatient prescriptions, including data entry, labeling, and third-party billing.

What you'll need#

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program.
• Registration as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain within three months of hire).
• Completion of mandatory reporter training within three months of hire.
