About the role#
Trinity Health is seeking a Pharmacist Intern to provide technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. This position involves performing technical tasks under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, contributing to patient care through medication preparation, documentation, and clinical support.
What you'll do#
- Prepare patient drug orders and deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient care areas.
- Process medication drawers and fill unit-dose exchange envelopes.
- Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
- Perform patient counseling regarding medication use, including drug names, strengths, doses, and side effects.
- Maintain inventory by restocking automated medication dispensing machines and checking medication expiration dates.
- Compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products according to established procedures.
- Process outpatient prescriptions, including data entry, labeling, and third-party billing.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program.
- Registration as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain within three months of hire).
- Completion of mandatory reporter training within three months of hire.
