About the role#
The Trend Micro Research Center in Toronto is seeking a Vulnerability Research Intern to join our team. You will support a global customer base by contributing to technical data feeds, research products, and engineering services. This role involves analyzing software security and collaborating with experienced researchers to identify emerging threats.
What you'll do#
- Research newly discovered security vulnerabilities across a wide range of software products.
- Produce detailed reports describing software vulnerabilities and methods for detecting attack vectors.
- Develop signatures for network traffic-based attack detection.
- Monitor security industry publications, news groups, and online sources to stay informed on emerging threats.
- Collaborate with other vulnerability researchers on research, analysis, and report production.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in at least two programming languages, including experience with C, C++, Java, or Assembly, and scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, Perl, Lua, or Bash.
- Familiarity with *NIX operating systems and the command line interface.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
- A functional understanding of the OSI reference model, TCP/IP, and networking protocols.
- A strong desire to learn, demonstrated through personal projects or self-directed learning.
- Coursework in compilers, interpreters, or computer security is preferred, as is experience with CTFs, bug bounty programs, or open-source contributions.
