About the role#
The Innovation R&D Lab Intern supports our research and development team by building and maintaining Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments. You will work alongside R&D engineers to support incubator prototypes, proofs of concept, and technical reviews of emerging technologies. This role provides an opportunity to develop practical cloud engineering skills through hands-on work, training, and mentorship.
What you'll do#
- Build and configure AWS environments based on provided designs, templates, and checklists.
- Learn core AWS lab standards including compute, storage, networking, and identity management.
- Deploy vendor and open-source technologies for technical evaluation.
- Prepare test environments, sample data, and basic validation scripts.
- Automate small lab tasks using scripting and infrastructure as code tools.
- Document build steps, configurations, and lessons learned.
- Track and report resource usage and costs for assigned environments.
- Troubleshoot environment issues and escalate blockers to engineers.
- Observe team meetings, technical reviews, and vendor briefings.
- Complete and present a capstone project near the end of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program, preferably in Computer Science or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Fundamental understanding of cloud computing concepts like virtualization, networking, and the shared responsibility model.
- Basic familiarity with Linux, the command line, and at least one scripting language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and a willingness to learn new technologies.
- Enthusiasm for technical problem solving and attention to detail.
- Hands-on AWS experience or a foundational certification is a plus, though not required.
- Familiarity with Git and infrastructure as code tools is a plus.
- Interest in cybersecurity, identity, AI, or agentic technologies is a plus.
