About the role#
Panther Life Sciences is seeking an AI formulation researcher to join our R&D team. You will work on algorithmic formulation, which is the starting point for every product we develop. This role involves building models that predict how formulations, active ingredients, and patches behave. You will have ownership over your projects, from scoping problems and selecting tools to building models and presenting results to company leadership.
What you'll do#
- Build machine learning models to predict formulation properties like solubility, stability, and dissolution.
- Apply physical chemistry and molecular modeling to study proteins, peptides, polymers, and small molecules.
- Develop physics-based and generative models to study transport, such as how formulations diffuse through skin.
- Use synthetic data generation to augment small, high-quality experimental datasets.
- Benchmark open-source foundation models and scientific AI tools for R&D use.
- Work alongside formulation and lab teams to turn experimental data into predictive models.
- Document your methods and results, presenting findings to the CTO and the broader team.
What you'll need#
- An advanced degree in chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, materials science, or computational chemistry, or a BS with at least 2 years of relevant industry experience.
- A solid foundation in physical and organic chemistry, including molecular structure and interactions.
- Hands-on experience with machine learning, particularly with generative models or data-scarce problems.
- Experience with molecular dynamics, cheminformatics, or molecular modeling tools.
- A strong background in physics and numerical simulation, such as transport or fluid dynamics.
- Proficiency in Python and the scientific computing stack, plus familiarity with ML frameworks.
- An interest in drug delivery, life sciences, or skincare.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site co-op based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- The term covers Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
