About the role#
Project Design Interns join the design team at Tippmann Construction to support the sales cycle and construction process. You will work alongside mentors, sales leadership, estimating, and project management teams to develop site and facility solutions. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027 based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. You may travel to project sites occasionally.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with design and sales teams to identify client facility needs and operational requirements.
- Translate business requirements into specific site and facility design options.
- Use CAD, 3D modeling, and BIM tools to create detailed designs.
- Provide data to the estimating team to help develop project costs, including alternates and allowances.
- Update design options and resolve open issues as requested by customers or team members.
- Support project management during the construction phase.
What you'll need#
- Progressing toward a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering and Technology, or Computer Graphics Technology.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
- Experience with 3D modeling and BIM concepts.
- Strong skills in communication and presentation.
- Proficiency with MS Office, specifically MS Excel.
- Understanding of industrial facility design, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of the food processing and distribution industry is a plus.
