About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to learn from the news team at KTRK-TV in Houston. You will develop your news judgment and writing skills while observing the daily operations of a broadcast news station. This role focuses on the production side of journalism rather than on-air opportunities. The program runs from January 2027 through early June 2027.
What you'll do#
- Work alongside reporters and photojournalists in the field for newsgathering and live remotes.
- Write copy and edit video for daily newscasts.
- Observe producers and executive producers to understand their workflows.
- Attend morning and afternoon editorial meetings.
- Assist with the planning of news stories and the daily operations of the assignment desk and newsroom.
- Observe how news is distributed across digital and social media platforms.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college or university, preferably as a Junior or Senior.
- Previous experience in print or broadcast journalism, news production, or script writing.
- Knowledge of how to post content on social media platforms.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize projects in a collaborative environment.
- Unrestricted work authorization and at least 18 years of age.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere for video editing is preferred.
- Coursework in a mass media or news media related field.
Location & details#
- This position is located in Houston, Texas.
- The role is on-site and requires a consistent schedule of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Interns must provide their own housing and reliable transportation.
- This is a paid internship at a rate of $19.00 per hour.
