About the role#
The Department of Political Science at The University of New Mexico is looking for an undergraduate student to serve as a Student Ambassador. You will help strengthen connections between the department, current students, prospective students, and alumni. This role offers hands-on experience in communications and public engagement for students interested in fields like public policy, law, government, or higher education. You will work directly with faculty and staff to support departmental visibility and outreach.
What you'll do#
- Create content for departmental social media and maintain an active online presence.
- Assist with recruitment efforts for prospective students and outreach to current students.
- Serve as a student representative for the department.
- Help develop communications focused on students and alumni.
- Support special projects related to student engagement and departmental visibility.
- Promote academic and professional resources to the student body.
- Greet visitors and handle light phone work in the department office.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at UNM.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in-person within the Political Science Department.
- A professional, friendly, and dependable approach when interacting with others.
- Comfort with social media and an interest in creating digital content.
- Organizational skills to manage projects with guidance.
- Creativity and a willingness to contribute new ideas.
- Interest in areas like public policy, politics, law, or community outreach is a plus.
- Experience with design tools like Canva, photography, video, or event planning is preferred.

- Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: 15.00 per hour.
- Status: Paid, student employment.
