    About the role#

    The Desktop Engineering internship is a year-round, part-time position running from January through December. You will work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer, with a 1,000-hour cap for the year. This role provides hands-on experience in technical support, system troubleshooting, and documentation within a financial services environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Log incoming tickets in ServiceNow with detail, including user information, issue descriptions, and timestamps.
    • Categorize and prioritize tickets based on urgency and issue type.
    • Check for duplicate or related tickets to ensure efficient resolution.
    • Provide first-level troubleshooting for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
    • Reset passwords and unlock user accounts following security procedures.
    • Provision applications to users for VDI.
    • Assist with basic network connectivity, including Wi-Fi and VPN access.
    • Escalate complex issues to Level 2 or Level 3 support with clear documentation.
    • Follow up with users to confirm resolution and close tickets.
    • Maintain and update knowledge base articles and internal documentation.
    • Communicate clearly with non-technical users throughout the support process.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in Computer Science or a comparable major.
    • Basic understanding of Windows 10/11.
    • Familiarity with Active Directory concepts like users, groups, and lockouts.
    • Experience navigating ticketing systems.
    • A troubleshooting mindset that focuses on reproducing issues, isolating causes, and escalating when necessary.
    • Precision in written communication to ensure tickets are actionable for other team members.
    • Basic understanding of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) concepts.
    • Exposure to scripting or automation for repetitive tasks.
    • Ability to translate technical issues into plain language.
    • Comfort documenting steps taken so others can follow your work.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Chicago, Illinois.
    • Work Modality: Hybrid. Employees are expected to work from the office at least 3 days per week, including Tuesday and Wednesday as anchor days.
    • Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
    • Status: This is a paid internship. It is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
