About the role#
This year-round internship offers students the opportunity to work with our Data Platform Core and Data Services teams. You will contribute to the foundational cloud-based systems that process and provide access to data. This role is a 12-month commitment, running from January through December, with a maximum of 1,000 hours. You will work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain cloud-based data processing and access capabilities.
- Write SQL code and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Collaborate with business users and technical teams to gather requirements and define data needs.
- Plan and document project requirements.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to support feature development, testing, and documentation.
- Participate in sprint reviews and present your work to the team.
- Learn new tools and technologies as you contribute to solutions that make data useful for the organization.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising senior or second-year graduate student, graduating in December 2027, May 2028, or August 2028.
- Proficiency in SQL and data analytics.
- Programming experience in Python or Java.
- Foundational knowledge of distributed systems, including event-driven architecture, fault-tolerance, and message delivery.
- Hands-on experience with cloud services, preferably AWS.
- A desire to develop operational maturity regarding system availability and data correctness.
- Ability to work constructively in an agile team environment.
- Clear communication skills and a willingness to learn quickly.
- Openness to using AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Chicago, Illinois.
- The role operates under a hybrid work model, requiring at least 3 days per week in the office, with Tuesday and Wednesday as mandatory anchor days.
- This is a paid internship position.
- We do not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
