About the role#
The Community Health Advocate intern joins our research team to work directly within local neighborhoods. You will identify, educate, and enroll individuals for a specific health study. This position focuses on building trust and ensuring diverse participation in our research. You will spend your time in the field, collaborating with local organizations, clinics, and community leaders to support our outreach goals.
What you'll do#
- Engage with community members in local settings to explain the study and assess eligibility.
- Conduct face-to-face outreach, host informational sessions, and distribute study materials.
- Build and maintain relationships with clinics, community organizations, and local leaders.
- Guide interested individuals through the enrollment process and follow-up communications.
- Explain study procedures, benefits, and risks in clear, culturally sensitive language.
- Provide ongoing emotional support and resolve barriers to participation, such as transportation or language needs.
- Advocate for participant needs and share community feedback with the internal research team.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to facilitate participant retention.
What you'll need#
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competency skills.
- Experience working with diverse populations or in community outreach.
- Ability to build rapport quickly and work independently in the community.
- Problem-solving skills to address participation barriers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 360, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple outreach efforts at once.
- Understanding of health disparities and social determinants of health is preferred.
- Previous experience with research or clinical trials is a plus.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Houston, Texas.
- Work modality: On-site, with regular travel within the community region.
- Schedule: Full-time with some weekend and evening hours required.
- Compensation: $17 to $18.50 per hour.
- Term: Rolling.
