The Japan-U.S. Cyber Policy Fellowship is an eight-month program designed to cultivate the next generation of experts in Japanese cybersecurity policy and bilateral cooperation with the United States. This fellowship provides graduate students, PhD candidates, and early-career professionals with opportunities to engage in high-level policy discussions, receive mentorship from industry experts, and publish original policy analysis.
What you'll do#
- Participate in quarterly virtual discussions regarding U.S. and Japanese cybersecurity policy and bilateral collaboration.
- Engage in bimonthly virtual meetings with a designated mentor.
- Research and publish a policy brief focused on U.S.-Japan cybersecurity cooperation.
- Attend the annual Pacific Technology Policy Conference and a private workshop in Seattle.
- Travel to Washington, D.C. for meetings with U.S. government, Congressional, and think tank stakeholders.
- Participate in a public event in Tokyo regarding U.S.-Japan cybersecurity policy.
What you'll need#
- Japanese nationality and current residency in Japan.
- Strong academic background or professional experience in international relations, cybersecurity policy, technology, or U.S.-Japan cooperation.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- A demonstrated interest in advancing cybersecurity and technology cooperation between Japan and the U.S.
- Availability to participate in all fellowship programming, including international travel.
Location & details#
- This is a remote-based fellowship for residents of Japan, with required travel to the United States for program activities.
- The fellowship term begins in Winter 2027.
- This is a paid fellowship that includes a $1,000 stipend and coverage of travel expenses.
