About the role#
The Communications Fellow supports the Communications and External Affairs team with design, content, and digital projects. This nine-month, part-time position offers hands-on experience within an in-house communications team. You will work with an established organizational brand to produce visual materials and digital content for a national, nonpartisan organization. This role is paid at $15 per hour.
What you'll do#
- Assist in developing and maintaining templates for event and communications materials.
- Organize digital assets, including design files, logos, photographs, and templates.
- Update website content and visuals using WordPress.
- Draft, adapt, and proofread short-form content for social media, email, web, and print.
- Build, test, and distribute email newsletters.
- Schedule social media posts and create accompanying graphics and copy.
- Collaborate with team members and participate in creative review processes and department meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Graphic Design.
- A portfolio of design or content work showing relevant skills.
- Comfort using Canva.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite templates, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign.
- Experience or familiarity with WordPress, video editing, and digital accessibility.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work both independently and in a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- An interest in public service, public policy, or nonprofit communications.

- This position is based on-site in Lexington, Kentucky.
- The role is part-time and follows a rolling term.
