About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student to gain practical experience within the American Red Cross. You will support the communications team by assisting with materials, research, and strategy development. This is a part-time, paid, temporary position based in San Diego. The role involves a standard schedule of 20 hours per week during normal business hours.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development of communication materials, including news releases and social media content.
- Create and maintain communications plans and strategies.
- Conduct research projects and analyze data to present facts and recommend solutions.
- Develop content for social media, such as posts, reels, and videos.
- Conduct interviews with volunteers, staff, and the public for story development.
- Support and provide guidance to volunteers.
- Work with media databases and Sprout Social Media Management.
- Assist in creating reports and informational materials for management.
- Attend events in person as needed.
- Maintain databases for service events and projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student or trainee.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Up to 1 year of related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to work effectively on a team.
- Preferred: Studies in Public Relations or Communications.
- Preferred: Knowledge of AP Writing Style, video creation, and editing.
- Preferred: Ability to speak Spanish.
- Preferred: Experience interviewing diverse audiences and building stakeholder relationships.
Location & details#
- Location: San Diego, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $17.75 per hour.
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel is expected.
- Requirements: A criminal background check is required for this position.
