About the role#
The Church History Library is looking for a part-time processing archivist to join the United States Team. You will arrange and describe records related to the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This internship provides exposure to historical research, record acquisition, and archival workflows. You will work under the direction of staff archivists and historians to help preserve materials.
What you'll do#
- Process and catalog a variety of archival collections and materials in analog and digital formats.
- Manage records through the full workflow, from acquisition to processing, digitization, and final storage.
- Review the cataloging work completed by others.
- Assist staff in training and managing missionaries and volunteers at Church headquarters and across the United States.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s degree in history, library science, international studies, anthropology, religious studies, or a related field. College seniors graduating within 6 months are eligible.
- A basic understanding of archival research, theory, and practices.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent oral, written, and editing skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- A high degree of self-motivation and dependability.
- Respect for confidentiality and diversity in the workplace.
- Membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worthiness to hold a temple recommend.
- Preferred: A master’s degree in Library or Archival Sciences, experience in an archive, or knowledge of Church history sources and historiography.
Location & details#
- This position is located at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- This is an on-site, part-time role requiring 28 hours per week.
- Work must be performed between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- The internship is paid and expected to last 12 months.
