About the role#
The Church History Library is hiring a part-time intern to work with archivists on preparing historical records for online publication. This is a year-long position requiring 28 hours of work per week during regular business hours. You will work under the direction of the Access Services team lead in the Archives and Area Support Division.
What you'll do#
- Review manuscript collections for sacred, private, or confidential information.
- Prepare assignments and audit the work completed by volunteers.
- Mentor and train volunteers on various tasks, including basic computer skills.
- Update and correct catalog entries and collection registers.
- Assist in managing a high-volume workflow.
- Learn and apply department record access policies.
- Participate in directed readings in Church history and professional literature related to archives and manuscripts.
What you'll need#
- Membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worthiness to hold a temple recommend.
- Bachelor’s degree in history or an allied field.
- Experience conducting research or working in an archive.
- Ability to read cursive and difficult handwriting.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and Adobe Reader/Pro.
- Basic understanding of archival theory and practices.
- Experience with teaching or training in any setting.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Ability to learn new concepts and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Respect for confidentiality.
- Willingness to dress and present oneself professionally.
- Bilingual skills are preferred.

- This is a paid internship for students currently enrolled in an educational institution or those within one year of graduation.
