About the role#
The 2026 AFRL System Engineer Graduate Intern will support the Advanced Technology and Concepts organization at Kirtland AFB. You will work alongside Lead Systems Engineers to assist with technology development programs and mission planning for space experiments and prototypes. This role involves direct interaction with AFRL/RJE program offices to support the acquisition of space missions from initial concept through launch and early operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist in executing the acquisition of space missions from concept to launch and early operations.
- Support space hardware environmental testing, including TVAC, vibration, and EMI/EMC.
- Prepare test plans, procedures, and post-test reports.
- Provide assistance and oversight for technology development programs.
- Support on-orbit operations for select missions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master's or Ph.D. program in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience with AFRL/RJE programs.
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner with customer personnel on technical, programmatic, and administrative issues.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Submission of academic transcripts.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, project management abilities, and the capacity to adapt to changing organizational needs.
