About the role#
As a Reliability Engineer intern, you will work on battery cell qualification. You will help design and produce safer, lower-cost, and high-performance cells by analyzing data from the qualification process. You will independently lead technical projects, use engineering judgment to plan and execute work, and report your findings to the team.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and visualize data to spot trends and risks in cell programs.
- Build tools for rapid dataset analysis and characterization.
- Support test design and data analysis to understand battery degradation modes.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and testing teams.
- Summarize large datasets to inform future product direction.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and visualization.
- Experience with statistical modeling and scripting.
- Understanding of Design for Reliability, Design of Experiments, and DFMEA.
- Familiarity with reliability software tools and Weibull analysis.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrochemical battery cell failure modes.
- Exposure to Data Science and Data Engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion cell life modeling and electrochemical mechanisms is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Palo Alto, California.
- The internship runs during the Winter and Spring 2027 terms.
- This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- You must be actively enrolled in an academic program to be eligible.
