About the role#
As an intern on the Core AI Compiler & Runtime team, you will build the software stack that powers Tesla AI. Your work directly enables neural networks to run in millions of vehicles and Optimus robots. You will focus on first-principles systems work, removing unnecessary abstractions and creating high-performance APIs to extract maximum efficiency from our hardware.
What you'll do#
- Write, debug, and maintain compiler and runtime software for FSD, Optimus, and data-center workloads.
- Design features that enable efficient distributed inference on Tesla hardware.
- Give AI developers access to performance-critical hardware features through new APIs and domain-specific languages.
- Integrate the deployment stack with modern ML frameworks like PyTorch and JAX.
- Analyze and resolve functional and performance issues on massively parallel systems.
- Deploy and optimize AI models for autonomous vehicles, robots, and offline inference pipelines.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant field with an expected graduation in 2028 or earlier.
- Proficiency in modern C++ and solid systems programming skills.
- Expertise with ML compilers and runtimes, such as MLIR, LLVM, XLA, PJRT, or TensorRT.
- Experience developing domain-specific languages or high-performance programming models like Triton, cuTile, or Pallas.
- Familiarity with CPUs, GPUs, and modern AI accelerators.
- Knowledge of computer architecture, distributed systems, networking, and collectives.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Modality: On-site, 40 hours per week.
- Terms: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Status: Full-time internship for students actively enrolled in an academic program.
