About the role#
Join the team building the software for Tesla's energy storage systems. You will work on the Site Controller, which acts as the brain for industrial sites by managing solar, batteries, and other assets. This role involves writing production code that ships to real sites, debugging complex systems, and delivering features that support renewable energy. You will work alongside senior engineers on a daily basis.
What you'll do#
- Write testable software using Golang and Rust for server-class embedded Linux platforms.
- Participate in system architecture and design discussions to turn concepts into working features.
- Improve customer interfaces and telemetry collection systems.
- Investigate technical issues, reproduce them, and collaborate with your team to find solutions.
- Partner with validation teams to build and execute integration test strategies.
- Write unit tests and practice test-driven development at scale.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with systems languages such as Golang, Rust, or C++.
- Familiarity with Linux and comfort using the command line.
- Understanding of core concepts like concurrency, multi-threading, networking, and systems design.
- Interest in embedded systems and hardware-adjacent software.
- Experience with messaging or industrial protocols like NATS, MQTT, or OPC UA.
- A history of writing unit tests or participating in personal projects, hackathons, or open-source work.
- Ability to multitask and communicate effectively across teams.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Terms: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour plus benefits.
