About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Occupant Safety and Restraints team, you will support the design and implementation of passive safety systems for new vehicles. You will work under the mentorship of an experienced design engineer to help produce safe vehicle components. This role involves the full design cycle, from initial concepts to final implementation.
What you'll do#
- Design, release, and launch seat belt system components for current and future vehicle platforms.
- Perform mechanical design and CAD work as a primary focus.
- Collaborate with vehicle design teams, including interiors, body, firmware, and manufacturing, to integrate components.
- Support testing, research and development projects, and hands-on prototyping.
- Assist with electro-mechanical system integration tasks.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in 3Dx or Catia V5, Python, and LS-DYNA.
- Experience with data acquisition equipment, accelerometers, pressure transducers, system design, and biomechanics.
- Prior CAD part and assembly design experience from work or personal projects.
- Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, including GD&T and dimensional engineering.
- Hands-on experience with tools, machine shop equipment, and electronics like wiring and soldering.
- Experience with graphing programs such as Hyperworks or Hypergraph.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to balance competing constraints across teams.
- Previous experience in safety or automotive engineering is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Fremont, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
