About the role#
This is a full-time, on-site internship focused on the Optimus robotics project. You will work within the Tesla AI department to build simulation modules that support robotics development. The program runs for the Winter and Spring terms of 2027, with the potential to extend through Summer 2027. We require a minimum commitment of 12 weeks at 40 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Build high-fidelity, physics-based simulation modules for robotics.
- Model complex systems to ensure high reliability and accuracy.
- Improve simulation performance to maintain high throughput without sacrificing fidelity.
- Partner with hardware design and training teams to reduce the gap between simulation and real-world performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Physics, Mathematics, Robotics, or Electrical Engineering degree program.
- An expected graduation date between 2026 and 2027.
- Significant experience in robotics physics engine development, demonstrated through impactful projects or first-author publications.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, CUDA, and GPU programming.
- Knowledge of control theory, algorithm complexity, data structures, compiler principles, and differentiable simulations.
- Strong communication skills and a preference for collaborative problem-solving.

- The role is based in Palo Alto, California.
- This is an on-site position requiring 40 hours per week.
- Compensation ranges from $20.00 to $55.00 per hour, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) participation.
