About the role#
The Energy Service Tooling team works on electrical and software problems across multiple products. You will join a team that manages projects from architecture to final delivery. This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Hayward, California, for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Own end-to-end electrical projects for service tooling, such as end of line testers, trickle chargers, and battery-module simulation setups.
- Design, build, and validate electrical systems from initial architecture through bring-up, debugging, and final handoff.
- Develop and document service processes that use software features for field and lab tasks.
- Execute test plans for software features and service procedures, capturing results and edge cases.
- Provide feedback to design, firmware, and software teams to improve tool reliability and user experience.
- Support system integration including wiring, power paths, safety, and interface definition.
- Debug hardware and software interactions using logs, protocol analysis, and lab instruments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ship functional solutions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an academic program for Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Embedded programming skills in C or C++.
- Experience with digital communication buses like CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, or I2C.
- Experience developing with microcontrollers such as STM32, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
- Knowledge of analog components including MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, and gate drivers.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout, preferably using Altium Designer.
- Ability to debug electronic circuits using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, and signal generators.
- Familiarity with the hardware and software life cycle development process.
- Experience using hand and power tools, and previous experience assembling or reworking electro-mechanical systems.

- Compensation: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour plus benefits.
