About the role#
This is an 11-week paid summer internship focused on the intersection of software engineering, large language models, and workflow automation. You will work on-site in Bellevue to help shape how AI agents and developer tools improve engineering effectiveness at T-Mobile. You will be paired with mentors and collaborate with engineers to turn real workflow problems into working prototypes.
What you'll do#
- Partner with engineers to define a focused use case, requirements, and measurable success criteria.
- Build a scoped AI agent or developer-tooling project that addresses a concrete engineering workflow.
- Develop and test agent tools, API integrations, or workflow automations using Python or TypeScript.
- Create evaluation datasets and regression tests to measure quality and identify failure modes.
- Add logging and tracing to investigate errors, latency, and tool behavior while following security requirements.
- Compare results against a baseline to assess correctness and usefulness.
- Document design decisions, share progress, and deliver a working prototype with recommendations for next steps.
What you'll need#
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States now and in the future.
- Enrollment in a bachelor's or graduate degree program with one or more courses remaining after the internship.
- Foundational programming skills in Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript, demonstrated through coursework, research, or personal projects.
- Familiarity with Git, APIs, debugging, and automated testing.
- Interest in LLMs, AI agents, and developer experience.
- A willingness to test assumptions and critically review AI-generated code.
- Ability to break down ambiguous problems and communicate clearly.
- Exposure to agent frameworks, MCP, RAG, evaluation tools, CI/CD, or cloud platforms is helpful but not required.
