About the role#
Meta is looking for Research Scientist Interns to join the Monetization Ranking and AI Foundations team. You will work on fundamental advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning, focusing on AI agents that reason, plan, and learn from experience. The team explores how intelligent agents adapt to new tasks and improve through interaction. This role involves contributing to research that may be applied to product development at scale.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research to advance the science of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Develop novel algorithms and systems for AI agents, reasoning, and sequential decision-making.
- Design experiments to analyze the effectiveness and generalization of learning algorithms.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to communicate research plans and results.
- Publish your findings and contribute to research applicable to Meta products.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, C, or Java.
- Experience building systems based on machine learning or deep learning methods.
- A track record of research results, including first-authored publications at conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, AAAI, KDD, or CoRL.
- Research experience in areas like LLM agents, reinforcement learning, planning, or meta-learning.
- Software engineering experience through research, internships, or open-source contributions.
- Ability to work and communicate across different teams.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- Valid work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and throughout the internship.

- Locations: Sunnyvale, CA or Menlo Park, CA.
- Modality: This is an on-site internship.
- Duration: Internships are 12, 16, or 24 weeks long with rolling start dates.
- Employment: This is a full-time, paid position.
