About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience with the communications team at SXSW. You will work across major programming pillars including Innovation, Film, TV, Music, Education, Comedy, and Podcasts. The role covers the strategic preparation needed to promote a global event and the execution of media operations during the event itself.
What you'll do#
- Develop and execute PR strategies across multiple industries.
- Perform journalist research and build targeted media lists.
- Draft press releases, FAQs, talking points, and executive briefing documents.
- Support on-site media center operations and live press logistics.
- Monitor, organize, and analyze earned media coverage to develop internal reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university or college as a degree-seeking student.
- Residency in Texas.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong research skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate in both virtual and in-person environments.
- Interest in Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies.

- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Fall 2026 through Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site and Hybrid.
- Compensation: Paid at $12.00 per hour.
- Schedule: 16 hours per week, with full-time availability (up to 40 hours) required during the event.
