About the role#
The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program offers a 6-month internship focused on state-level public health. You will support the mission of reducing tobacco-related health disparities and preventing youth nicotine dependence in Utah. This is a part-time, non-benefited position that operates on a hybrid schedule. You will work on various initiatives based on team needs and current program priorities.
What you'll do#
- Use public health data and research tools, including AI, to explore social media trends.
- Build customized reports for local health partners and design templates for quitting services.
- Help design, execute, and assess strategic media campaigns and educational materials for youth tobacco prevention.
- Contribute to public health policy initiatives, research, and evidence-based strategies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field, or graduation within the last year.
- A basic understanding of public health principles and health equity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Ability to research and gather information online effectively.
- Interest in public health data tasks like literature reviews, survey development, and data visualization.
- Experience or interest in creating visual materials using tools such as Canva, InDesign, or Publisher.
- Strong writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Planning, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- A team-oriented mindset, combined with the ability to work independently.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The position is hybrid, requiring at least one day per week in the office.
- You must be able to perform all work from within the State of Utah.
- Continued employment is contingent upon passing a criminal history background check.
