About the role#
The Regulatory Support Bureau is hiring a Field Services Student Intern to assist with essential permitting and compliance functions. You will gain hands-on experience by supporting environmental resource programs, analyzing data, and collaborating with staff on regulatory projects. This is a year-round, part-time position based in Sarasota, Florida. Work is performed on-site and involves a mix of office tasks and field visits.
What you'll do#
- Draft letters and reports regarding permit conditions and compliance.
- Compile and review data from files, databases, maps, and publications.
- Compare construction activities to approved plans to identify and summarize deviations.
- Assist with compliance inspections for Environmental Resource Permitting, Water Use Protection, and Well Construction programs.
- Attend meetings to discuss regulatory matters and noncompliance issues.
- Research and organize permitting files to support team goals.
- Respond to or route citizen inquiries related to permitting and compliance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university with at least one year remaining in your program.
- Pursuit of a degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related Physical Science.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduate students.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Experience with GIS is preferred.
- Ability to work near the maximum allowable hours weekly.
Location & details#
- Location: Sarasota, Florida.
- Schedule: Part-time, typically up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
- Work environment: Work is divided between office settings and field sites, which may include remote, undeveloped, or isolated areas near water or wetlands. Fieldwork may occur during adverse weather conditions.
- Travel: Infrequent travel within the District coverage area using a District vehicle.
