About the role#
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking a student intern to support the Office of the Inspector General. This role provides hands-on experience in government oversight, including auditing, investigations, policy review, and performance evaluation. You will work in a standard office environment and contribute to the agency mission of protecting water resources.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Inspector General with auditing activities and evaluate information for reliability and validity.
- Support investigative work by gathering, reviewing, and analyzing data to identify inconsistencies.
- Participate in policy review by assessing the impact and effectiveness of rules and procedures.
- Contribute to performance evaluations within a government oversight setting.
- Use Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation, analysis, and reporting tasks.
- Apply problem-solving and communication skills to develop creative solutions.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment as at least a part-time student in an accredited college or university.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.
- A valid driver license.
- Preference is given to students pursuing an Accounting degree at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, paid internship based in Brooksville or Tampa, Florida.
- The position is part-time, typically scheduled for no more than 25 hours per week between Monday and Friday.
- Occasional travel within the District coverage area using a District vehicle is required.
- The role involves continuous repetitive tasks like keyboarding and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
