About the role#
The Legislative Audit Division of the Montana State Legislative Branch is hiring a Financial Compliance Audit Intern for Summer 2027. You will assist in auditing state agencies and programs to provide accurate information regarding state finances and operations. This is a paid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Interview personnel at the audited agency.
- Test controls and account balances.
- Use analytics to evaluate transaction cycles.
- Test compliance with federal regulations and state laws.
- Work collaboratively with team members.
- Reach conclusions on assigned audit work.
What you'll need#
- Working towards a bachelor's degree.
- Obtained or currently enrolled in at least 6 semester hours of relevant upper division accounting coursework.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team.
Location & details#
This position is based in Helena, Montana. You will work primarily at the State Capitol campus or at various agency buildings around Helena, with occasional travel to other locations such as universities. The role is hybrid, allowing for telework up to half-time. You must live near Helena to accommodate in-person requirements. The position requires a criminal records background check and participation in E-Verify.
