About the role#
The Montana Department of Transportation is hiring a Library Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This role is based in Helena and focuses on supporting the Research Section. You will work 40 hours per week in an on-site capacity. This is a paid position, with compensation rates based on your completed credit hours.
What you'll do#
- Assist with literature searches and help manage the interlibrary loan program.
- Clean up the library catalog system by creating, copying, and enhancing records with summaries and tables of contents.
- Support daily library operations, including shelf-reading and checking for mis-shelved items.
- Contribute to the Summer Research Newsletter and help make research products available online.
- Identify relevant resources for library patrons and assist employees with literature requests.
- Work on research guides and pursue library-related projects based on your specific interests.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a college, university, technical school, or graduate program, with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a library career.
- Undergraduate students must have completed at least 60 credit hours or be entering their junior year. Technical school students must have completed at least 30 credit hours.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively.
- Proficiency with computers.
Location & details#
- Location: Helena, Montana.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer.
- Compensation: Pay is determined by credit hours earned by the end of the Spring 2026 semester ($19.50 to $23.25 per hour).
- Note: This internship does not include benefits such as paid holidays, medical coverage, vacation, or sick leave.
