About the role#
The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury offers a 10-week paid internship for students to gain hands-on experience in governmental auditing. You will work on an active audit assignment while participating in professional development sessions. The program includes cohort check-ins, networking opportunities, and a tour of the Tennessee Capitol. You will conclude the internship by presenting your findings and contributions.
What you'll do#
- Examine and review internal controls, records, reports, and information systems.
- Evaluate compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements.
- Assess management practices for state government entities and organizations receiving public funds.
- Assist in evaluating data integrity for application systems and the efficiency of entity operations.
- Participate in professional development activities, including training on professionalism and emotional intelligence.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student in Accounting, Computer Science, or Data Science.
- Completion of at least 6 hours of coursework in accounting, computer information systems, computer science, information security, data analytics, or business.
- Ability to think critically and adapt to new tasks.
- Strong verbal communication, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Location & details#
- Location: Nashville, Tennessee.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 1 to August 6).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $24 per hour.
- Travel: Limited travel may be required, primarily within the Nashville area, with potential for travel to other parts of Tennessee. Audit-related travel is reimbursed.
- Requirements: This position requires a criminal background check.
