About the role#
The Southwest Airlines Communications & Public Relations Internship offers hands-on experience in content creation, research, and communication strategy. Interns support teams that connect employees, customers, and communities to the company. You will work within departments such as Internal Communications, Corporate Communications, Operational Communications, or External Communications (Public Relations), or the Customer CARE Standards and Communications Team.
What you'll do#
- Edit and proofread company material.
- Write articles for intranet channels and department publications.
- Draft press releases, executive bios, and copy for digital signage.
- Support communication planning and project management for company initiatives.
- Attend cross-functional meetings and assist with special events.
- Conduct research to identify opportunities to improve communication strategies.
- Create graphics that align with the corporate brand and translate written text into infographics.
- Use web publishing tools to maintain content on intranet and knowledge base sites.
- Provide service and maintain positive relationships with internal customers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, or a similar field.
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with superior grammar and spelling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
- Capability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Authorization to work in the United States and a valid U.S. Social Security Number.
Location & details#
- Location: Dallas, Texas (on-site at the corporate headquarters).
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 18 to August 8, 2027).
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid ($21-$24 per hour, based on degree progress).
