About the role#
As a Student Respiratory Therapist at Southern Ohio Medical Center, you work under the supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Therapy. This role focuses on providing respiratory care to patients in alignment with hospital policy. You will perform duties approved and documented by your respiratory care educational program coordinator.
What you'll do#
- Deliver medical gas administration through various devices.
- Administer humidification, aerosols, and aerosolized medications.
- Perform postural drainage and chest physical therapy.
- Deliver hyperinflation therapy.
- Demonstrate the use of home treatment systems for patient education.
- Collect and report patient information to assist in planning treatment programs.
- Perform nasal tracheal and artificial suctioning for sputum samples.
- Draw and collect blood for arterial sampling.
- Conduct pulmonary function testing for bedside spirometry and peak flow assessments.
- Manage natural and artificial airways.
- Monitor and manage noninvasive and invasive equipment used for ventilatory support.
- Perform tests to determine a patient's ability to be liberated from mechanical ventilation.
- Evaluate patient response to therapy through assessment and documentation of progress.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a CoARC-approved program in Respiratory Care.
- RCP(LTD) licensure.
- BLS certification, with re-certification every two years.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Previous work or educational experience that promoted team working relations is preferred.
