About the role#
As a Student Respiratory Therapist at Southern Ohio Medical Center, you work under the supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Therapy. This contingent role provides respiratory care to patients in accordance with hospital policy. You will perform duties approved and documented by your respiratory care educational program coordinator.
What you'll do#
- Deliver medical gas administration through various devices.
- Administer humidification, aerosols, and aerosolized medications.
- Perform postural drainage and chest physical therapy.
- Deliver hyperinflation therapy.
- Demonstrate home treatment systems for patient education.
- Collect and report patient information to help plan treatment programs.
- Perform nasal tracheal and artificial suctioning for sputum samples.
- Draw and collect blood for arterial sampling.
- Conduct pulmonary function testing for bedside spirometry and peak flow assessments.
- Manage natural and artificial airways under supervision.
- Monitor and manage noninvasive and invasive equipment for ventilatory support under supervision.
- Perform tests to determine the ability to be liberated from mechanical ventilation.
- Use assessment and documentation to evaluate patient response to therapy.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a CoARC-approved program in Respiratory Care.
- RCP(LTD) license.
- BLS certification (or BLS certification within 90 days of hire).
- Experience that promoted group or team working relations is preferred.
