About the role#
As a Medical Technology Student at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, you will work under supervision to perform technical laboratory procedures. You will assist in gathering data for the diagnosis and treatment of patients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatric patients. You will also perform procedures on animal specimens. This role provides hands-on experience in a hospital laboratory setting while you complete your education.
What you'll do#
- Perform and report results for technical laboratory tests in sections such as Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Diagnostic Immunology, Hematology, or Toxicology.
- Conduct preventative and routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Run quality control tests according to department policies.
- Model behavior consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Identify opportunities to grow your professional skills and competency.
- Handle invasive and non-invasive patient contact and work with potential exposure to body fluids or hazardous materials.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Medical Technology college program.
- A Laboratory Trainee work permit issued by the Tennessee Department of Health Medical Laboratory Board.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly with associates and physicians.
- Capacity to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials like lab reports.
- Normal vision, eye-motor coordination, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, reach, bend, and twist.
- Good balance, coordination, and hand-eye coordination, including the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions.
