About the role#
This Civil Engineering Co-op position offers hands-on experience in consulting engineering. You will join the SME team for a full-time assignment running from mid-May 2027 through late November or early December 2027. The role begins with an orientation and training period, followed by direct work with full-time team members, construction managers, and contractors. You will gain exposure to geotechnical engineering, environmental remediation, pavement design, and materials evaluation.
What you'll do#
- Support field construction quality control activities.
- Assess and evaluate project materials like soils and concrete.
- Assist the team in ensuring adherence to project specifications.
- Perform field evaluations and quality control testing.
- Gain exposure to consulting engineering practices.
What you'll need#
- Basic computer literacy for field work, communication, and reporting.
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment or samples up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to work outside at construction sites in various weather conditions.
- Capability to sit, stand, stoop, or kneel for long periods and work on uneven terrain.
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering program.

- Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- This is an on-site, full-time position.
