About the role#
This co-op position offers hands-on experience with mining, backfill, geotechnical, and process plant design projects. You will work alongside senior engineers to gain practical knowledge applicable toward future EIT requirements and see how different engineering disciplines integrate to deliver successful projects.
What you'll do#
- Support mining and backfill engineers with underground layouts, backfill concepts, and related calculations.
- Assist with laboratory testing programs for tailings, backfill materials, and aggregates, including sample handling and results tracking.
- Help with mining and processing plant scopes by assisting with equipment lists, basic mass balance inputs, and layout coordination.
- Participate in site visits and field investigations.
- Prepare and maintain spreadsheets, preliminary layouts, and design markups.
- Support project delivery through document control, meeting coordination, and task tracking.
- Learn how mining designs interface with process plants, tailings management, and backfill distribution systems.
What you'll need#
- Third- or fourth-year student status in Mining, Mineral Processing, Chemical, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong health and safety values.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and resources.
- Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and exposure to mining operations is an asset.
- Familiarity with mining-specific software is desirable.
