Intern, Research & Development

About the role#

The Research & Development Engineering intern will support the design of firearm components and accessories. Working alongside R&D designers, test technicians, and engineers, you will contribute to departmental goals and participate in continuous improvement projects. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Fall 2026 semester, running from September through December.

What you'll do#

• Create CAD design models using SolidWorks and incorporate changes to existing designs.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings and process design change orders.
• Support the performance of tests and experiments, including data analysis and the writing of detailed test reports.
• Assist in the manufacture and inventory management of prototype parts and products.
• Engage in business process improvements and maintain 5S standards.
• Adhere to all ISO procedures, EH&S training requirements, security mandates, and range safety protocols.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in report creation and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
• Working knowledge of CAD software for creating parametric solid models and engineering drawings, with a preference for SolidWorks.
• Advanced coursework in thermodynamics, fluids, materials, mechanisms, or CAD is preferred.
• Experience using and maintaining firearms or related products is preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
