    About the role#

    The Outdoors Alliance for Kids (OAK) intern works with the OAK Campaign Manager and the Sierra Club’s Outdoors for All team. This role supports the alliance by advancing advocacy goals, managing government relations, and coordinating coalition activities. You will gain experience in federal policy, partnership engagement, and coalition management while working with various organizations across the country.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the OAK Campaign Manager on daily operations, initiatives, and campaign tasks.
    • Attend meetings and Congressional briefings to take notes and share updates with stakeholders.
    • Manage administrative tasks including updating the membership database, organizing Google Drive folders, and processing new members.
    • Create content for newsletters, emails, blog posts, fact sheets, policy letters, and social media channels.
    • Assist in planning events such as advocacy days, including logistics, partner outreach, and scheduling.
    • Perform research on potential alliance members and analyze federal, state, and local policies.
    • Maintain the OAK website and digital resources.

    What you'll need#

    • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to build relationships and engage in conversations regarding equity and inclusion.
    • Excellent writing and speaking skills.
    • Experience creating PowerPoint presentations, one-pagers, and fact sheets.
    • Familiarity with Google Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, and social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on commitments.
    • A commitment to understanding systems of oppression and your own relationship to power and privilege.
    • Background in policy, advocacy, or movements related to justice, conservation, health, or youth.
    • Majors in Political Science, Communications, or Environmental Engineering are relevant to this work.

    Location & details#

    • This is an on-site position based in Washington, DC.
    • The role is part-time, requiring 15 hours per week for a duration of 6 months.
    • This is a paid internship.
