About the role#
Mississippi Votes is looking for an undergraduate student to join the Communications Department as a Social Media Intern. This role focuses on creating digital content to share our mission and connect young people to civic engagement. You will help manage our Instagram and TikTok accounts, capture event coverage, and develop creative assets. This is a paid, hands-on position for someone interested in storytelling, digital organizing, and public relations.
What you'll do#
- Support the management of our TikTok and Instagram accounts.
- Create original content including short-form videos, graphics, and photos.
- Produce a set number of approved communications assets each month.
- Brainstorm creative ways to make civic engagement accessible to young audiences.
- Identify relevant trends, sounds, and formats for our platforms.
- Appear on camera for social media content.
- Capture photos, videos, and interviews at programs and events.
- Attend community events, organizational programs, and trainings for coverage.
- Organize and maintain digital media assets.
- Participate in department meetings and professional development sessions.
- Follow our brand guidelines and approval processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate at Jackson State University, Tougaloo College, Millsaps College, or Belhaven University.
- Availability to work at least three days per week on a consistent schedule.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to offices across the state.
- Comfort appearing on camera.
- Familiarity with Instagram and TikTok.
- Ability to create content using a smartphone and a willingness to learn new editing tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in civic engagement and our mission.
- Experience with tools like Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, or video editing is preferred.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Jackson, Mississippi, and requires on-site work.
- The internship runs from Fall 2026 through Spring 2027.
- Compensation is $15.00 per hour.
- Assignments may occasionally occur during evenings or weekends.
