About the role#
The San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club is hiring a Climate Intern to support our local climate action, conservation, and grassroots organizing campaigns. This is a part-time, temporary position requiring 15 to 20 hours per week for a duration of 5 months. You will work on-site in San Diego, collaborating with staff, volunteers, and community partners to protect natural resources and promote sustainable policies.
What you'll do#
- Assist with community outreach and volunteer engagement, including recruitment and onboarding.
- Organize public events, workshops, and meetings to strengthen our local impact.
- Conduct policy and environmental research, including tracking Climate Action Plan implementation and local government actions.
- Support staff with scheduling, data management, and meeting coordination.
- Prepare educational and campaign materials to support advocacy efforts.
- Assist with various Chapter initiatives, such as conservation programs and environmental restoration efforts.
What you'll need#
- Strong communication skills to interact with volunteers, staff, and community members.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Research and critical thinking skills to synthesize information for advocacy and outreach.
- A commitment to environmental and social justice.
- Adaptability, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
- Academic background or interest in fields such as Environmental Engineering, Political Science, Sociology, Public Health, Communications, or Business Administration.
