About the role#
The Seattle Mariners are seeking a Data Science Intern to join our Baseball Operations department. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Seattle. We are looking for candidates who can commit to a term spanning from early 2027 through mid-October 2027.
What you'll do#
You will support our baseball operations team by applying data science to improve our decision-making. Your work will include:
- Building and analyzing statistical models using data from Trackman, Hawkeye, and our own proprietary sets.
- Conducting quantitative research and running ad hoc queries.
- Assisting with various baseball-related projects and other assigned tasks.
What you'll need#
- A strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or engineering.
- Proficiency in programming with R, Python, or Julia.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred, though we will consider relevant public research or work experience.
- Experience with SQL is preferred.
- A background in original baseball or sports research is a plus.
- Experience with predictive models or AI programming tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot is welcome.

- Pay is $23 per hour.
