About the role#
This is a full-time internship for the Winter 2027 term, running from January to April. You will join the Velocity program at Scotiabank, which provides a customized experience designed to build your technical skills and professional network within the banking industry.
What you'll do#
- Develop, test, and improve software components for digital assets, tokenization, and programmable payments.
- Learn blockchain fundamentals including transactions, consensus, finality, token models, and smart contracts.
- Assist with smart contract development for token issuance, transfer, validation, and exception handling.
- Help integrate blockchain components with APIs, microservices, payment systems, databases, and enterprise platforms.
- Contribute to proofs of concept, prototypes, and minimum viable products.
- Analyze on-chain and off-chain transaction flows to help investigate technical issues.
- Write unit tests, participate in code reviews, and follow secure coding and version control practices.
- Create technical notes, diagrams, and implementation records.
- Collaborate with teams across engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, risk, and operations.
- Learn how to design solutions for security, privacy, resilience, scalability, and performance.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, information technology, mathematics, or data science.
- Foundational programming experience in languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go, C#, C++, Rust, or Solidity.
- Understanding of core concepts like data structures, APIs, databases, testing, and debugging.
- Interest in blockchain, distributed systems, digital assets, or financial technology.
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar problems, consider alternatives, and communicate your reasoning clearly.
- Willingness to learn, collaborate, and accept feedback.
- Helpful: Coursework or projects involving smart contracts, event-driven applications, or distributed systems.
- Helpful: Exposure to Ethereum, EVM-compatible platforms, token standards, or digital signatures.
- Helpful: Experience with REST APIs, microservices, cloud services, containers, Git, or CI/CD.
- Helpful: Interest in payment processing, settlement, or financial market infrastructure.
