About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern in the Nuclear Power Group, you will contribute to projects that support nuclear energy operations. You will work alongside experienced engineers and subject matter experts to design and modernize critical electrical systems for existing nuclear plants, small modular reactors, and advanced reactor facilities. This role involves gaining hands-on experience with technical processes, safety standards, and project management while working toward professional licensure goals.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering calculations and design tasks for large nuclear power generating stations, including tasks like cable sizing and system design.
- Use ETAP software to perform power systems analysis and modeling for complex electrical networks.
- Assist with the selection and integration of major electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and motor control centers.
- Collaborate with designers to translate engineering concepts into detailed drawings.
- Apply data and modern tools, including automation or scripting, to improve workflows and solve engineering problems.
- Participate in a multidisciplinary mock engineering project to solve design challenges and present solutions to senior staff.
- Communicate and coordinate with team members and stakeholders to deliver engineering solutions within project schedules.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering and technology.
- Ability to work on-site for the duration of the summer 2027 term.
