About the role#
This position combines the Elevate early career program with a client service internship in State and Local Tax. Elevate is a leadership development experience for accounting students that includes a three-day conference in January 2027. Following the conference, you will participate in a year-long development experience to build professional skills. As a State and Local Tax intern, you will work with various companies to address their tax challenges while gaining hands-on experience in a team-based environment.
What you'll do#
- Integrate state and local tax services with existing client accounts.
- Complete tax planning and research tasks.
- Develop an understanding of state and local tax regulations and accounting pronouncements.
- Review client tax processes to identify inefficiencies and provide enhancements.
- Collaborate with client information technology personnel to obtain data for reporting, audit procedures, and potential refund or credit reviews.
- Assist clients in evaluating sales and use tax software systems and support the implementation process.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited accounting degree program.
- Completion of at least 90 credit hours by the start of the internship.
- Anticipated full-time associate start date of Fall 2029 or Winter 2030.
- Demonstrated leadership in student organizations or the community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and multitask in a busy environment.
- A minimum 3.4 GPA is preferred.

- This is a full-time, on-site internship.
- Available locations: Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA; Houston, TX; McLean, VA; Dallas, TX; Tampa, FL; New York, NY; and Charlotte, NC.
- Travel to assigned client locations is required. You must have access to reliable transportation.
