About the role#
Rigetti Computing is looking for a research intern to support superconducting qubit fabrication at the Marvell Nanolab cleanroom at UC Berkeley. You will work with our team of scientists and engineers to design and build superconducting qubits. Your work will focus on scalable nanofabrication processes and device development. The devices you fabricate will be measured at Rigetti to help inform our process development. You will gain experience in the full fabrication workflow, including device layout, microscopy, and process optimization.
What you'll do#
- Fabricate superconducting qubits and Josephson tunnel junctions in a cleanroom environment.
- Prepare, edit, and verify CAD layout files.
- Develop and optimize lithography processes.
- Operate and assist with plasma etching processes such as ICP and RIE.
- Perform electrical and structural characterization of your fabricated structures.
- Analyze fabrication data to identify process trends and improve yield and uniformity.
- Document your experimental procedures, process results, and design iterations.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to improve the scalability and reproducibility of superconducting qubit fabrication.
What you'll need#
- Hands-on experience working in a semiconductor or nanofabrication cleanroom.
- Experience with photolithography or electron-beam lithography.
- Experience with dry etching techniques including ICP and RIE.
- Proficiency in GDSII-based CAD layout tools like KLayout, LayoutEditor, Cadence, or L-Edit.
- Strong experimental skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a research environment.
- Current or past membership with the Marvell Nanolab cleanroom at UC Berkeley is preferred.
- Experience with AlOx Josephson junctions is a plus.
- Educational background in electrical engineering, physics, materials science, or a related field.

- This is an on-site, full-time internship based in Berkeley, California.
- The position is paid with a rate of USD 35-50 per hour.
- This role is offered on a rolling basis.
