About the role#
The VelociGene team at Regeneron develops gene-editing tools to improve the precision and safety of genome engineering for cell lines, mouse models, and therapeutic applications. As a co-op, you will contribute to the development of a proprietary gene-editing enhancement platform intended for both in vitro and in vivo use.
What you'll do#
- Screen engineered protein variants using a fluorescence-based reporter assay to identify compact, enhanced versions that retain function.
- Apply computational structure-prediction tools to assist in the design of engineered protein variants.
- Evaluate a modified, DNA-nicking version of Cas9 to assess its ability to reduce unwanted genomic effects while preserving editing efficiency.
- Perform molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, subcloning, and western blotting.
- Execute mammalian cell culture tasks such as sterile technique, passaging, transfection, and electroporation.
- Work with viral vectors and flow cytometry methods.
- Document experimental procedures and results using Excel and Prism.
- Collaborate with scientists across the VelociGene team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or acceptance to an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Chemistry.
- You must be returning to school the semester following the position or graduating after the position.
- Ability to commit to 40 hours per week for the duration of the co-op.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in campus activities, clubs, sports, or community involvement is preferred.
