About the role#
The Corporate Planning department at Philadelphia Gas Works is seeking an intern for the Summer 2026 term. This position supports energy innovation and business diversification efforts, focusing on research, technology assessment, and program development within a municipal utility setting.
What you'll do#
- Research case studies and utility best practices, including university partnerships, business incubators, conferences, and pilot programs.
- Identify potential partners and maintain a catalogue of businesses focused on carbon capture, alternative energy, and energy efficiency.
- Review engineering studies to evaluate the cost-effectiveness and practical application of new technologies within the PGW utility system.
- Develop business cases and commercialization structures for identified projects.
- Assist in the creation of communication materials, identify key stakeholders, and help draft content for energy innovation initiatives.
- Support broader corporate sustainability and strategy departmental activities as needed.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in or completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers and employees.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to develop creative solutions.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter, exercise sound business judgment, and manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
