About the role#
As an NPD Engineering Intern on the Booms team, you will work alongside engineers to support new product development. You will handle tasks ranging from basic assignments to complex analytical projects, gaining hands-on experience with mechanical systems in the access equipment industry.
What you'll do#
- Design, model, and test mechanical systems for JLG equipment.
- Research and execute continuous improvement requests to support manufacturing and supply chain operations.
- Use CAD software like Creo Parametric to prepare, revise, and review vehicle component layouts with global engineering teams.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices and update bills of materials in PLM and PDM systems.
- Provide technical assistance on the assembly floor during prototype, pilot, and production builds.
- Perform engineering calculations, including weight distribution, stress analysis, and performance estimations.
- Consult with internal departments, suppliers, and customers to solve technical problems.
- Assist in testing complete vehicles and individual components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's program for mechanical engineering or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in mechanical design.
- Familiarity with steel and sheet metal fabrication principles.
- Knowledge of the construction industry and its equipment.
- Experience with CAD systems like Creo Parametric, Pro-E, or CATIA.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Previous internship or work-related experience.
- Participation in extracurricular activities such as SAE teams.
