About the role#
Join the IT Finance team as an intern to gain hands-on experience in financial management within the Office of the CITO. This role offers practical exposure to financial analysis, procurement support, KPI tracking, project spending, and mobile device management. You will report directly to the IT Finance Manager.
What you'll do#
- Assist with financial data entry, transaction recording, and maintenance of IT financial records.
- Perform variance, trend, and ratio analyses to evaluate IT financial performance.
- Compare project actuals with approved plans, monitor spending rates, and flag variances.
- Reconcile project purchase orders and expenses to the appropriate records.
- Create and submit purchase requisitions for IT goods and services, coordinate approvals, and track requisitions.
- Conduct research on technology spending, suppliers, contracts, and procurement.
- Review open purchase orders and commitments by researching outstanding balances and preparing findings for review.
- Prepare recurring IT financial reports and KPI dashboards, validate source data, and summarize trends for management.
- Evaluate an assigned IT Finance or procurement process and recommend improvements for data quality, reporting, efficiency, or internal controls.
- Prepare and deliver a presentation summarizing your analyses, project outcomes, and recommendations.
- Manage company mobile devices and carrier accounts, including inventory, billing reviews, and service cost allocations.
- Collaborate with IT personnel, Accounts Payable, IT Sourcing, and Corporate FP&A teams.
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and networking events.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in a bachelor’s program in Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
- Familiarity with Power BI, ServiceNow, or ERP systems like Oracle Fusion or PeopleSoft is a plus.
- Coursework or familiarity with budgeting, global currencies, or Technology Business Management concepts is helpful.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Houston, Texas.
- The role follows a hybrid work model, with time split between the office and home as agreed upon with the CITO.
- This position is open to students on a rolling basis.
